In Memoriam: Michael A. Hoffman

We are deeply saddened by the recent death of our friend, co-founder and partner, Michael Hoffman. Michael and his partner, Doug Wartell, were pioneers in family law when in 1988 they saw the need for a more specific type of advocacy in divorce and custody from a man’s perspective and founded ADAM, the American Divorce Association for Men. Michael had a unique ability to relate with and provide counsel for the literally thousands of men he met with over the next 23 years. He had a knack for seeing the big picture for his clients and setting them on the right path. He was compassionate but also had a fierce sense of justice for his clients, and he and Doug built their Firm under these principles.

Michael was a fun-loving guy who spread joy to those around him with his wit and unique sense of humor. Generous to a fault, he would not only buy you dinner, but insist that you had a “to go” container of the soup of the day. You had better come to work hungry, since Michael was known to bring in deli or his own concoction from the night before and insist you have a nosh. He could both dish out and take a little teasing and made the office a fun place to be even when the work was a challenge.

Michael was a loving son, father and sibling and a dear friend to countless people in both Michigan and his adopted home of Arizona. He will be greatly missed.
